Considered one of the premier pole vault coaches in the U.S., Hays has coached a multitude of All Americans, NCAA and Conference champions during his near 20 year career.  Prior to his arrival at the University of Kansas, Hays helped develop the University of Arizona's pole vault squad into one of the top teams in the nation. In his six seasons, he coached 15 All-Americans, four national champions, two national runner-ups and two collegiate record holders. In 2002, Hays was the IAAF Event Development Coordinator for the pole vault, working with world record holder Sergey Bubka.
